ORPHANS, MUSIC AWARDS, & The CORKTOWN!

Hey Folks...

I just finished reading the Tuesday Spectator, and catching up with all the
election results?  So, what do you think?

First off, I wanted to remind everyone that the 3rd Hamilton Music Awards
Showcase is happening this weekend November 17th - November 19th).  Last
year's festivities were totally exciting and I truly think that it was
beyond most people's expectations.  There was a live feed from the Atlanta
U2 show to the Hamilton Music Awards (at the Dofasco Ctr) to congratulate
Daniel Lanois on all of his fine musical achievements.  Not bad eh?

This year, Hamilton is saluting King Biscuit Boy, one of the world's finest
harp players and blues performers.  September Seventh Entertainment is
hosting this tribute to Richard Newell aka King Biscuit Boy on Sunday
November 19th at the Dofasco Centre for the Performing Arts.  For more
information, please visit www.hamiltonmusicawards.com for more information.

There are also tons of great shows taking place at various venues across the
city in support of our local music, plus some incredible out of town guests.
Kelly Jay from Crowbar will be visiting Hamilton during November 17th -
November 19th and sitting in with Trickbag.  The fun starts on Friday and
ends on Sunday night.  Again, please refer to the above mentioned website
for more details.

Movng on...I can not believe the amount of kind emails and calls that I have
received over the past few weeks in regards to my resignation from the
Corktown.  I must tell you that being a promoter, I try to put artists and
bands in the spotlight, but I must tell you that it feels weird when I read
my name in print(guess I would have never made a great performer!!).  In any
event, I want to thank all of you for your kind notes and chats.  However I
would like to say that my resignation was based only on business matters.
The current owners are excited about a new schedule and agenda, and I
expressed to them that I would not be the person to take them into this new
direction.  As much as I would have loved to continue staying at the
Corktown, it would have not been fair to the management, owners, or to
myself to continue at 175 Young Street.

Now, all of us have to appreciate the hard work that these guys put into
fixing up the Corktown.  It needed much attention and nurturing and it
certainly received that and more.  Also, the Corktown is going to continue
with live music every weekend, and that is a great thing!  All in All, I am
proud of what the new brass has done with this old lady, and I would
encourage all of you to drop in and visit.  The food is great, and the
spirits are plenty!

Finally, I just wanted to share with you that some very good friends of mine
have completed their debut CD.  The Orphans are a local hard rocking 4 piece
band from Hamilton Ontario.  These fellows have opened up for some amazing
acts, have been the background band for various fashion shows. Now they can
brag about their new CD.  I met with Dave Elley (guitar and vocals) over the
weekend, and he was kind enough to lay their debut CD, MONSTER, in my hands!
I must tell you that the walls of guitars make Fenway's green monster seem
as high as a popsicle stick on its side!  They are going to celebrate their
CD release party on December 2nd at the Absinthe.  I encourage you to go out
and see and hear them.  Congrats Orphans and well done!!

That is it for now...

Keep Being Cool!
